SIMONE ESTERHUIZEN "FLESH" GROUP SHOW AT NO VACANCY GALLERY
The human body is the centre of how we experience the world around us. Through physical interactions, body language and an individual's appearance, we try to gain an insight into one another; all that surrounds us. However, often there is a disconnect between perception and reality.
Melbourne Collage Assembly co-founder Simone Esterhuizen is exhibiting her piece ‘Body Beautiful’ in No Vacancy’s curated group show.
“Themes in my collage work oscillate from loneliness and anonymity to hyper-sexuality using materials from the Golden Age of Hollywood and advertising. Objects are sliced, torn, concealed or revealed to create new images with a sense of off-kilter familiarity, or to suggest a glitch in the Kodachrome soaked imagery previously presented to us. My piece 'Body Beautiful' is one in a series that explores the ideals of the male physique through found imagery and the world of mid century beefcake magazines”
