Kieran Madden
Kieran Madden is an artist whose practice is primarily focused on collage. His work ranges from skewed visual puns to tableaux with deeper social and political themes. It is all analog 'cut and paste' in technique.
Much of the source materials come from vintage magazines and books of the post-war boom time era through to the 1980’s. These advertising and media images depict a world of unfettered consumption and muted social awareness. He reappropriates this imagery in his compositions, exploring the consequences of this late capitalist trajectory that we live with today.
Kieran relocated to Melbourne in 2018 where he set out to start the Melbourne Collage Assembly as a way of bringing more attention the practice locally, launching it with Simone Esterhuizen in 2019.
Prior to that Kieran had lived and worked in Brooklyn, New York for 10 years. During this time he was one of the founding members of the influential Brooklyn Collage Collective which was the inspiration to start something similar in Melbourne
He has shown his work widely, done editorial commissions and has work held in private collections around the globe. In 2017 his work was included in the publication 'Making the Cut Vol. 1 - The World's Greatest Collage Artists'.
